West Nile Virus

West Nile Virus has been found in Maine. As yet, no human cases of human infection have been discovered. The state of Maine maintains an up-to-date information site at:

The Center for Disease Control is the best site for info from the Federal Government:

While the elimination of unnatural standing water, such as in wheelbarrows, wading pools, flower pots, etc. is a wise precaution, Maine Audubon cautions against damage to vernal pools and other wetlands. Not only is such activity unlikely to help, it can cause great harm to other wildlife, including species necessary for the control of the mosquito population!
