Schoodic Point 2007

Fourteen semi-hardy souls enjoyed a Penobscot Valley Chapter to the Schoodic peninsula on a sunny, gorgeous, and not overly cold February day.  The day's highlight: a Thick-billed Murre very close to shore at Blueberry Hill. A Red-throated Loon was in the same spot, though farther offshore, just in front of five roosting Great Cormorants. A few American Robins were also present around the parking area. About eight Red Crossbills flew by in the spruce forest near Schoodic Head. Three Bald Eagles were also encountered during the day and three Iceland Gulls were at the cannery in Prospect. We also had good views of the usual suspects: Common Eiders, Black Scoters, Horned Grebes, many Common Loons, Red-breasted Mergansers, Long-tailed Ducks, Buffleheads, Black Ducks, and a high number of Common Goldeneyes.
