Roque
Bluffs Archipelago - November 12, 2005
Sandi and Bob Duchesne joined
noted naturalist Norm Famous to lead an offshore trip around the Roque
Bluffs archipelago on November 12th, including a stop on a private island.
Many seabirds winter in these waters and the group was treated to close
looks at flocks of Long-tailed Ducks, Common Eiders, and Surf Scoters, plus
smaller flocks of White-winged Scoters, Red-breasted Mergansers, Common
Goldeneyes, Black Ducks, and Common Loons. Highlights included several Bald
Eagles, a Red-throated Loon, Horned and Red-Necked Grebes, 14 Northern
Gannets, and a VERY cooperative Boreal Chickadee basking in sunlight.
